Itinerary:
Day 1- Arrival in Amboise
A sumptuous royal chateau overlooking
the Loire, and the Clos Luce, residence of
Leonardo Di Vinci for the last few years of
his life (he is buried in the small chateau
chapel), make Amboise the perfect spot to
start your unforgettable week.
Hotel and dinner- Le Choiseul- 4* hotel
with Michelin star restaurant.
Amboise
Day 2- Cycling to Chenonceaux and Montrichard- 47 km
Today you'll be cycling to perhaps the most famous chateau
of them all, Chenonceau, which stretches almost completely
across the Cher river (see photo at upper right corner of this
page). The fabulous gardens build by Diane de Poitiers and
Catherine de Medicis are not to be missed. You can rent an
audio guide for the chateau visit in order to get the most out
of your visit. Next you'll have a leisurely ride to the medieval
town of Montrichard before returning back to Amboise for
another Michelin star dinner.
Hotel and dinner- Le Choiseul 4*
Catherine de Medici Garden
Day 3- Amboise to Luynes- 52 km
Today brings a bike ride through the famous
vineyards of Vouvrey. You'll arrive at the Chateau de
Valmer and admire it's beautiful Italian style gardens.
From there you continue through the lovely
"Tourangelle" countryside where you'll eventually
arrive at your beautiful hotel, which sits in a park of
about 300 acres. The Domaine de Beauvois offers
elegant charm and comfort.
Hotel and dinner- Domaine de Beauvois- 4*
Day 4- Fontevraud to Chenehuttes- 31 km
You'll begin the day with a transfer by taxi to Fontevraud which features its Abbey which houses the largest
monastic city remaining in Europe. You'll depart and ride through forest and vineyards to arrive in Saumur, a
gorgeous town overlooking the Loire river and dominated by its remarkable imposing chateau. From there you
will follow the Loire until arriving at your next hotel, the superb Prieure.
Hotel and dinner- Le Prieure- 4*
Day 5- Loop to Rochemenier and Back- 46 km
You'll be staying at Le Prieure again tonight, so today's fair is a 46 km loop to Rochemenier and back.
Rochemenier is the most extensive troglodyte site in the Loire Valley, and you'll see the remarkable abodes
and lifestyles of people who lived here centuries ago.
Hotel and dinner- Le Prieure- 4*
Gardens at Villandry
Day 6- Villandry to Montbazon- 37 km
You'll start the day with a taxi ride to
Villandry where you will visit the chateau and
superb gardens. These are a treat and not
to be missed. We recommend the free film
to start the visit there- the pictures of the
gardens in each season are really great.
You'll start cycling after the visit and head to
Azay le Rideau, one of the top attractions in
the region, surrounded by water. Once
again, we recommend you rent an audio
guide to get the most out of your visit. Afterwards you'll be following the meandering Indre river before you
come upon your next exquisite hotel, the Chateau d'Artigny. You'll have another unforgettable dinner before
you bid farewell to this fabulous region.
Hotel and dinner- Chateau d'Artigny. 4*
Day 7- Departure from Montbazon. Montbazon is near Tours, so you will probably want to take a taxi to the
TGV train station there called St Pierre des Corps for a fast train to Paris or elsewhere.
